Extending students who are already speakers of te reo Māori
In addition to taking a lead in class tasks and activities, Māori-speaking students will also need encouragement and support to extend their own knowledge of the language. Opportunities for this include:
- extensive reading in te reo Māori from the increasingly wide range of books available
- intensive reading, followed by activities such as summarising and reporting orally to the class or making posters for display in the classroom or library
- conducting research using te reo Māori websites
- writing letters and messages to Māori-speaking penpals and e-pals.
